Notes on starting a notes blog.

Why a quieter cousin of the portfolio, what I expect it to become, and the three rules I'm holding myself to.

This is the first post on this site. Like most first posts, it is mostly an apology — for the empty archive, the placeholder pages, the slightly-too-confident styling that hasn’t been tested against four years of real writing yet.

It is also a quiet commitment, written here so I can hold myself to it.

The three rules

  1. Write the shorter one. When there’s a long version and a short version of the same idea, ship the short one. The long one can become a different post.
  2. Don’t write for the algorithm. This site has no metrics dashboard on purpose. The only signal that matters is whether I would re-read a post in a year.
  3. Publish before the polish. Done at 70% beats perfect at 95% every time. I will edit in place if needed.

What I expect this to become

Maybe forty essays over four years. Maybe ten. The point is to have somewhere quieter than the portfolio to write the things that don’t fit on a resume — the rituals, the small failures, the patterns that took me too long to learn.

If you found this on day one: thank you. Come back in six months and we’ll see if it looks any different.
